Your first appointment will be scheduled with your dentist and one of our Registered Dental Hygienists. It will include the necessary x-rays, oral hygiene instructions and a periodontal examination; which will consist of complete periodontal charting indicating pocket depths, areas of bleeding, inflammation, tooth mobility, and recession. Your dentist will do a comprehensive examination, which will also include an oral cancer screening of the soft tissue. We generally do not do a cleaning at the first appointment, until we determine what type of a cleaning is necessary. Once you become an established patient, exams, x-rays and cleanings are done in one appointment. The doctor and the hygienist will diagnose your hygiene and restorative needs as per your examination. The treatment recommendations will be explained to you in detail. We can take intra-oral photographs to show most treatment recommendations. An estimate will be prepared with our financial coordinator and your next appointment will be scheduled. If you prefer we can send a pre-estimate to your insurance company for prior approval. After your initial cleaning, your hygienist will recommend a professional cleaning at least twice a year. If you have had multiple cleanings or have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, your hygienist may recommend a more frequent recall schedule. You can either schedule your future appointment before you leave the office, or we can remind you closer to the time you will be due.
